In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our media product follows the conventions of real media products such as the three we analyzed and many others such as Next Friday where we interpreted the method of having the opening credits at the beginning of our product. we manipulated Many conventional elements such as the film is not shot in a studio but on location, also we used natural lighting rather than studio, and the audience is introduced to the violent nature of the product as there is violence from the beginning that are used in UK gangster films which is the selected genre we used. We based our storyline on Issues such as crime and drug affiliation matters as they are all day to day matters that are repeatedly portrayed in contemporary films and television drama’s such as Skins, that address and challenge these day to day matters by projecting the dangers and highlighting the effects and harm the actions can cause.
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Our media product represents two different types of social groups which are the sub-urban and the urban adolescent’s, we bought the two social groups together to attract two audiences. We represented the two different social groups by the way they are dressed, for example one of the characters (Craig) is dressed a lot more smart casual i.e. a polo shirt and well fitting jeans, whereas Danny is shown wearin a baggy t-shirt and loose fitting jeans. Issues such as crime and drug affiliated crime are affecting and potentially destroying adolescent hood today.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
I think that the kind of institution that our film would fit into would be channels such as E4 as they show the teen drama skins and our media product is similar to the way they portray teens. The reason that our film fits into a channel such as E4 is because this is seen as a channel that shows a lot of dramas/films that are similar to our film because they challenge the same themes and issues that affect the lives of young adults.
Who would be the audience for your media product?
Our media production’s target audience targets mainly those in adolescent hood from the ages of 17-23 due to the themes which are ( the effects of crime and drug affiliation within the urban and suburban adolescent culture) and the genre it is presented in, which is (UK gangster/drama).
How did you attract/address your audience?
We attracted our target audience by portraying the lives of young adults and how they are affected by day to day life, because this subject works well with this audience as we have seen from other films, also to make sure that this would be a good genre, we gave out a questionnaire a group of people and the results came back as the preferred genre was gangster.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I have learnt many different skills while constructing our product such as the camera techniques and editing. I saw a range of different camera techniques whilst analysing three films, so we got an idea of how to get the full effect of a scene, such as how even something as little as zooming in or out slowly has a huge impact on how the audience sees the film. Whilst editing we experimented with many things to get the right effect.
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
We feel we have made much progression from the preliminary task, when we looked back at our preliminary task we got feedback from the teacher and other students which gave us a lot of help, the feedback included; the teacher said that the clips were too short so it distorts the viewers eyes so we made the clips longer, also some of the students said that the shots need to be changed because it distorts the viewers eyes again, such as the shot suddenly changing from behind a person to the front. So we used this feedback and made a good final piece.
